Data
Wikipedia, the free, on-line encyclopedia, says:
Data refers to a collection of organised information, usually the result of experience, observation or experiment, other information within a computer system, or a set of premises. This may consist of numbers, words, or images, particularly as measurements or observations on a set of variables.Data are seen as a mass of observations; one observation is referred to as a datum. We rarely refer to a "datum."
If knowledge is power, for entrepreneurs data are key. The amount we spent on advertising in the past month. The numbers of unique visitors to our websites. Last month's sales figures. Current inventory days. The number of customers. Market share. Words people use to describe our businesses. The balance in our checking or money market fund. Our stock price. Having data sets us free. Having good data puts us in control. Without it, we are nothing.
