Human Capital--Trust and Leadership and Health

We've talked leadership and trust to death. These are two major forms of human capital the entrepreneur needs in spades. If you're still foggy on them, check out some of my earlier blogs. Just search for them and they'll come up. These bring up the complex of forms of human capital you will need.

But there's other things. For example good health. You have to have good health to start a business. You can't be at the top of your form if you're always fighting an illness. If you do have health problems think again what you are up to. If you have a partner who can help you out, that's to the good.

If you're starting a business, get as fit as possible and practice behaviors that promote good health so you can get in the game and stay there.

My goal here is to help entrepreneurs climb all the way to the top. How am I doing?

Maxwell's Law of the Lid

John C. Maxwell has written extensively on leadership. I covered his 21 irrefutable laws of leadership earlier in this blog. He argues that one's leadership ability determines a person's level of effectiveness. "The lower an individual's ability to lead, the lower the lid on his potential. The higher the leadership, the greater the effectiveness." (John C. Maxwell, The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership: Follow Them and People Will Follow You. Nashville, TN: Nelson Business, 1998, p. 1.

You should read this book. It's a good set of principles. And take heart, if you are deficient in one area, you can get better and increase your leadership score.

Human Capital #4--Leadership

Leadership is one of the primary qualities an entrepreneur needs. It's a component of his human capital. Wikipedia gives leadership as "the ability to affect human behavior so as to accomplish a mission; influencing a group of people to move towards its goal..." There's more on leadership in its article. If you're interested in leadership, read the whole article.

John C. Maxwell, in The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership (Nashville, TN: Nelson Business, 1998), asserts on page 1 that "leadership is the lid that determines a person's level of effectiveness. The lower an individual's aility to lead, the lower the lid on his potential. The higher the leadership, the greater effectiveness." Maxwell goes on to argue that leadership is a skill that can be learned. An entrepreneur can learn to become a great leader. Those who are born great can become even better. Maxwell has written a lot on leadership. You should check out his stuff, it's a good read.
